Who
I’ll start with the important information. I’m a blue belt. My club is Gracie Barra Bath (until I die, just kidding read on). I’ve been training for two and a half years. I initially started training back in 2004, when I was only a wee lad and had absolutely no idea what BJJ or MMA was, in fact at that age I didn’t have a Scooby about anything. How I wish now, that I’d carried it on, but I didn’t and I restarted again when I was at university at the end of 2008 and have never looked back. Since then I gradually became more and more obsessed. It’s quite alarming really.

Competing has never really been my strong point. I have competed maybe 5 times in the last 2 years and my best result was 2nd. My resolutions for 2011 were as follows
- Compete 6 times in 2011
- Get my purple belt
- Get back to England and my girlfriend.
The last one is entirely unBJJ of me. I am currently living and working in Germany for a rather large Aero Engine firm that are not very good and have problems with a certain Australian Airline (got it?) where I am at this very moment ‘working’.... on this blog.
So while I say that my club is Gracie Barra Bath, I am actually currently training at Alliance Berlin. I like this club and training here. I don’t really understand the club loyalty/rivalry thing, I’m not even sure if it seriously exists, I believe that training at different clubs is great for many reasons... but I digress, all this is probably better left to a post rather than an introduction.
What
What
This is a short run blog. It's about BJJ. I've decided as of January 1st 2011 that I will compete in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in America. It is almost exactly, roughly precisely 6 months away. It will mainly just be random thoughts and ideas about BJJ and how training goes... Yes I'm aware it sounds like rubbish, but I hope it's entertaining rubbish a bit like Saturday night tv.
The blog will be written as regularly as I have something to say about BJJ (so quite often then) in the run up to the 2011 worlds and is meant to amuse and entertain anybody who is bored at work. At least this is the only reason I could imagine anyone would read this blog. I recently discovered the BJJ blogosphere and must thank those of you who blog for helping to pass the lonely boring hours that I’ve spent here at work.
WHY?
WHY?
I am writing this blog to save my relationship. I think if the woman I love has to listen to me monologue on the subtle intricacies of an x-guard sweep or de la riva guard back take much more she will love me a little bit less. I also manage to twist any conversation to BJJ, I can be subtle or blatant, let me give an example:
Example 1:
Her: “Baby cakes (don't ask) my lecture today was really boring”
Me: “Did you doodle and play on your iphone?”
Her: “Not at the start, but yeh after 15 minutes or so.... Whhaaa? I couldn't help it, the topic was development economics and the lecturer couldn't even pronounce development!”
Me: “Did he have a funny accent?”
Her: “Yes he kept saying 'dewelopmen'”
Me: “Yeh it can be difficult to understand accents, whenever a Brazilian is teaching they always say....”
Subtle Method
Example 2:
Her: “BABYCAKES!! (I said don't ask) I got the job at [insert company name here]!
Me: “WELL DONE, I'm so proud. Today in class I swept a purple belt but he did submit me....”
Blatant Method
So, yes the a blog is in order so she can take or leave 90% of my BJJ related prattle at her leisure, as can you.
